Christmas at WJS
Over the years, Christmas and the holiday season have been celebrated in many ways throughout WJS. It's always been important to us that the people we serve be part of the festivities, and programs have hosted all manner of open houses, lunches, parties, special dinners, and dinners in the community, which have been welcomed and enjoyed by all who participated.
In past years, our central admin office organized holiday parties for staff as a small acknowledgement of their fabulous service throughout the year. And every year, our staff shared their good fortune with those less fortunate with "adopted" families", 50/50 draws, raffles, "Santa" pictures, food drives, and other fund-raising efforts. This year we felt it was time to do things differently.
Firstly, instead of "adopting" one Christmas family as we have in the past, this year we "adopted" two families. Collection of cash, food and gifts was coordinated by Marcus Jordan from our HR department, and he experienced the joy and reward of delivering the hampers to two grateful moms and four thrilled and excited kids.
Secondly, instead of hosting a "staff" party, central admin hosted a daytime open house for staff, persons served, parents and caregivers. We had a wonderful turn-out, and everyone appeared to enjoy the array of multicultural foodstuffs coordinated by our social committee.Our HR department has a direct link with the North Pole, and we were able to arrange to have Santa join us for a brief visit. It was truly heart-warming to see the looks on the faces of the persons we serve when they got to see -- and touch! -- the magic man himself!
We wish everyone -- our staff, the people we serve, the parents and caregivers we work with, our colleagues in the social service sector, and our stakeholders -- all the special gifts of the holiday season -- peace, joy, health, prosperity and lasting happiness! All the best to you all in 2012.
Partnership with Sprott-Shaw Community College
The WJS Training Division is excited to announce a new partnership with Sprott-Shaw Community College. The WJS Training Division will be working with Sprott-Shaw to have our courses and workshops accredited with the PCTIA, and even creating specialized certificate programs to further enhance core skills for the services that WJS provides. WJS Training and Sprott-Shaw are well matched to partner on training as we both operate throughout the same regions in BC! This dyamic partnership will also expand our ability to realize the vision of delivering training to the larger corporate and business worlds.
Sprott-Shaw has been offering career training since 1903 and WJS has been providing specialized career training to meet the professional development needs of persons working in social services since 1986. Together that's 130 years of providing training and education!
